Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH, developer of Cubase, the VST plugin protocol and many other music software products, is opening a new R&D Center in the United Kingdom. Daniel Spreadbury, formerly of Sibelius, is the new product marketing manager. Apparently a number of the old UK Sibelius development team have been hired. The center will concentrate on music notation and educational products.
In other words, the UK Sibelius team has a new home. Steinberg is owned by Yamaha, so the company will have deep development pockets.
This is excellent news for the former Sibelius employees and for musicians all over the world.
It is not particularly good news for AVID or for MakeMusic.
I sincerely hope there will be an easy way to transport Sibelius files to the new product.
