New piece published – “Phunky Paws”

I just added “Phunky Paws” to the jazz ensemble catalog today. It’s a grade 3 funk tune with a double-time bebop blues section for contrast. The solo section is in the bebop blues style (blues in B flat!) so kids can hang onto it easily. All the funk lines are written out for the rhythm section. There’s a live recording of my “middle” band playing it last week and a rendering of it from Sibelius 6 that will help your kids “get it.” It has some solo space for the drummer – but it’s limited – and it encourages young drummers to go listen to David Garibaldi. It’s only $ 20 and it worked well for my band – they liked it a lot, even though it was still called “Untitled Funk Tune” until last Thursday!
