I’ve followed Derek Sivers’ career for the last few years, once I found out he was the founder of CDBaby. Derek was a senior guitarist in our top jazz band the year I came to Hinsdale Central from Ohio. This was in 1985, and he had the 80’s rock guitar player thing down, the big hair, the red leather pants, the whole thing. He was a good guitarist and I wasn’t surprised when he went off to Berklee.
He’s turned out to be somebody truly amazing. In his latest blog post he tells how he gave away his company. You can find it here.
Incidentally, you should know about CD Baby. It is the perfect place for independent musicians to place their music for sales and distribution. That also means that they have a lot of CDs you won’t find in other places – like big band CDs by bands from all over the country.
Read Derek’s blog. You will be glad you did.
